Things To Know
Our kiln measures 16 ½’ L x 5’ W x 5’ H. Please be sure your material is sized to fit. Our minimum order is 1000 board feet but if you have a smaller or an extra large order let us know. If we have the space and time we will do our best to accommodate your specific order requirements. Don’t know how to calculate your board footage? Don’t worry! You can use our handy board foot calculator on our “Get a Quote” page or use the formula below.
Board feet = Length (ft) x Width (in) x Thickness (in)
Make sure your units are correct. The unit for length should be written in feet and the width and thickness should be written in inches. We will do a final tally at the time of your arrival as well.
Condition & Moisture Content
Please be sure that your material arrives in “kiln-ready” condition. It should be free of nails and other foreign debris. Boards should be milled and thoroughly air dried before kiln drying to ensure greater stability. (Please note that at this time we are unable to offer milling services. We apologize for any inconvenience.)
We recommend that the moisture content of your wood be between 12%-30%. If you don’t have a moisture reader and do not know the moisture content don’t worry, we will take moisture readings when you drop off the material.
Placing Your Order
Once we have received your order inquiry, we will contact you with a quote. You will get an email from us asking for a deposit and a signed terms & conditions form. Once we receive your deposit and signed terms & conditions, we will contact you shortly about scheduling a drop-off appointment. Please note that drop-offs and pick-ups are by appointment only.
Drop-offs & pick-ups are by appointment only
Once you have received your drop-off or pick-up appointment you will need to make arrangements to transport your material to our shop. We do not offer shipping or trucking but our team will be onsite to help you with the loading or unloading of your material at the time of your arrival. We have a forklift and a tractor. If you have any special needs or considerations please feel free to give us a call and we will do our best to accommodate them. Once you have dropped off your material and your material goes into the kiln we will let you know when it's ready. We typically run our kiln on 3 week cycles but timing will vary. Someone will contact you once it is ready so you can schedule your pick-up appointment.
What to Expect
Once your material comes out of the kiln you may notice it looks different than it did when you dropped it off. This is normal. Wood is a living and natural material. You may notice pin holes where little critters were former residents. You may notice new cracks or changes in shape. This is all part of the drying process. Lots of moisture has been extracted from your material and it has shrunk and become stronger.
