  • Board footage measures volume rather than area. (Linear footage measures area.) One board foot equals one square foot that is one inch thick.

  • You can use our handy board foot calculator on our Get a Quote page or use the formula below.

Board feet = Length (ft) x Width (in) x Thickness (in)

Make sure your units are correct. The unit for length should be written in feet and the width and thickness should be written in inches.

  • The kiln measures 16 ½’ L x 5’ W x 5’ H. Material should arrive sized to fit inside the kiln.

Please see our process page for important things to know.

  • WKD will take a moisture reading upon drop-off. Moisture content should be roughly between 12-30%. It is recommended that milled boards are thoroughly air dried before kiln drying to ensure greater stability. We can make recommendations for next steps once we know what the moisture content is. Please call or email with any specific details or questions.

  • Our storage is limited but we will do our best to accommodate you. Material storage requests will be considered on a case by case basis. It will depend on if we have available space and capacity. Please note that additional fees may apply. Please contact us for requests.

  • Typically, we will hold your material indoors for 2 weeks as long as we have space for it.

If you are unable to pick up your material within this 2 week window please contact us to make additional storage arrangements.

  • We accept checks, cash, money order, Zelle transfers and ACH transfers.

  • We do not accept credit cards at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • Orders can be canceled prior to the start of the drying process. At the time of drop-off, we will let you know when your material is going into the kiln. If you change your mind or need to cancel please call and make sure your material has not already gone into the kiln. For details about cancellations please reference our terms & conditions.

  • Wood is a living and natural material. Checking, warping, discoloration changes in size, pin holes, pith cracks, shakes among many other changes in material upon its removal from the kiln are to be expected. There are critters living in the wood and there are gaps and holes that will become more visible once the material shrinks and the moisture is extracted and the wood becomes stronger.
